Magic Trouble

Solutions

Fix what changes the result.

A solution is not a longer meeting about the problem. It changes the next sale, handoff, decision or hour of work.

The test

Can somebody do something differently?

Useful advice survives contact with Tuesday morning. It gives the business a specific move, an owner and a way to judge whether it worked.

If the answer only produces another document, it probably has not reached the problem yet.

Practical moves.

These are response patterns, not consultancy packages. Each starts with a business condition and narrows toward action.

Offer

Make the choice easier to understand.

Remove vague promises, unnecessary options and reasons to delay.

Follow-up

Stop letting interest cool.

Define the next step, timing and ownership before the conversation ends.

Automation

Take repetition away from people.

Automate stable, boring work. Keep judgment where judgment is useful.

Visibility

See the problem before month-end.

Track the few signals that change a decision, not every number available.

Bottlenecks

Remove the permanent queue.

Move knowledge, permission and routine decisions away from one overloaded person.

Process

Make the sensible path the easy one.

Simplify steps, handoffs and rules until good work no longer needs heroics.

Small is not timid.

A smaller intervention is easier to test, cheaper to reverse and harder to hide behind. Keep it when the evidence improves. Drop it when it does not.

The point is not to look busy fixing things. The point is for the trouble to cost less.
